Psychology Lecturer - Sout East Asia
Job Description
We as a multicultural team are focused on a large people group living both in the city and in rural areas. Currently there are only a handful of scattered believers and not yet any viable indigenous communities of faith in Jesus among them. Our vision is to see numerous people growing in their knowledge of Jesus Christ. We build relationships as we serve among these people, showing love and sharing Jesus in word and deed.
God has opened up an amazing opportunity in this people group through the request of a local university for a qualified psychology lecturer. As part of a multicultural team in the area, you would be trained and mentored on how to minister to the people group of that region.
According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2/5ths of Southeast Asians are Muslims. Islam is predominant in the southern half of the Malay Peninsula and the Malay Archipelago (which includes Indonesia, Philippines, East Malaysia, and Brunei). SE Asia also includes a vast population of Buddhists, Christians and Hindus. As usual, we ask people to fit in with local culture, including in dress, food, manners, etc.
You would live amongst this people group, immersing yourself in their language and culture, sharing your life and witness deeply with neighbours, friends and colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Learn language and culture fulltime for an initial time period of 6 months minimum.
- Teach psychology (in English) to students at a local university.
- Join with a long-term team in pursuing the vision.
- Minimum Commitment: 2 years.
Qualifications
Masters or higher level of education in field of Pschology is required.
Living Situations
Come with a willingness to dive into learning language and culture, developing deep relationships with people here, and a flexible attitude to adjust and adapt to the local way of life.
