Vietnam is OMF's most significant neglected frontier. We urgently need more workers for the ministry, but we also need more people who love doing administration to support those in ministry.
With more than 90 million people, Vietnam is the 4th or 5th largest country in East Asia but we have proportionately less people here than anywhere else.
It is not that the Vietnamese are reached. Less than 2% are evangelical Christians and 3/4 of those Christians are among a few minorities and most of the rest are in the South. Less than 0.1% of the 34 million Northern Vietnamese are Christians. And many of the minorities are less than 0.01 Christian.
It is not that there are less people reaching them. There are others and there are other groups. But much fewer than in the surrounding nations.
It is not that we can't do anything because it is a Communist country. It is more complicated, but visas are not difficult to get and significant ministry is possible. But there are few people doing it.
People doing effective ministry need efficient support. We need people to do the frontline ministry. But we also need people who are PASSIONATE ABOUT THE VISION but who SEE THEIR ROLE AS PROVIDING SUPPORT TO THEM and are happy to come and live in Vietnam to do that.
Support is needed in a variety of ways:
- personnel management
- coordinating short-term teams
- helping people with budgeting and managing finances (financially, each individual or family is like a small project)
- administrative support to our leaders and teams
Share the vision for Vietnamese peoples meeting Jesus
Love administration
Good at organizing (some evidence and experience of this would be good)
Comfortable with computers
Able to relate to people virtually and face-to-face
Flexible about what they will do and how they will do it.
This is a full time opportunity with commitment to a local team and living in a Vietnamese environment. You will need a committed group of prayer partners and the support of a sending fellowship. You will need to learn some Vietnamese to function effectively in this role, this will mean at least a year of full-time study. You may need to take on a part-time job such as English teaching.
