Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is a unique Christian charity using aircraft to deliver help and hope across the developing world. MAF transports patients, relief workers, produce, medical supplies and Christian workers in the world’s remotest regions and places of deepest human need – places where flying is not a luxury but a lifeline. We operate in over 30 countries with over 130 planes.
Being a global organisation, sometimes working in very remote locations, our IT infrastructure is core to our ability to function safely and effectively. Our IT function covers a wide portfolio from program development, development of IT infrastructure, and customer support. We now have an opportunity for an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our team in either the Ashford (UK) or Cairns (Australia) Support Office.
The IT Infrastructure Engineer will be the subject matter expert for all IT Infrastructure, including networking, VPN, telephony, and bandwidth management. You will be key in developing and implementing policies, standards, and procedures regarding IT Infrastructure and telephony.
Responsibilities:
- To be successful in this role, you will assist with the development of infrastructure road-maps to guide the future direction of MAF IT Infrastructure by keeping abreast of new and emerging technologies that will help MAF.
- You will implement and support infrastructure solutions and systems, including TCP/IP networking, routing, firewalls, managed switches, VLANs and more, all while providing administration and preventative maintenance.
- You will also be a point of escalation for infrastructure technical issues, assisting IT staff in resolving issues and developing their understanding and knowledge.
- Understanding the organisational requirements, including business analysis to ensure that the infrastructure is in line with organisation and IT strategies.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Good communication skills, able o explain complex concepts as appropriate for different audiences
- Extensive experience in IT Infrastructure
- Understanding of ITIL methodologies
- A very good understanding of IT Security from an infrastructure perspective
- Five years of experience working with TCP/IP networking, firewalls, routers, managed switches, VPN, VoIP telephony
- A very good understanding of Windows and open-source server operating systems, virtualisation, and Active Directory
- Significant experience troubleshooting TCP/IPP networking issues
- Good time management skills. Able to prioritise tasks appropriately
- Ability and willingness to travel to other MAF locations
- Ability to coach and mentor others
Desirable:
- Extensive experience working in an ITIL environment, ITIL qualification
- Experience supporting hardware
- Five years of experience of Windows and open-source server operating systems, virtualisation and Active Directory
- Five years of experience of IT Security from an infrastructure perspective
- Experience with bandwidth management solutions
