Communications and Media Writer

SIM Australia (Serving in Mission - sim.org.au) is a Christian mission agency helping to make the Gospel global. We serve and support cross-cultural workers from all around the world as they take the message of Jesus to people and places where He is least known.
SIM is seeking a Communications & Media Writer with a heart for God and a passion for mission to help us mobilise more people, prayer and funds for cross-cultural mission.
Applicants who understand cross-cultural mission are highly desirable for this role.
The part-time position with SIM Australia would be for 4 days per week and can be worked remotely/hybrid although time zones should reflect the Sydney office hours.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
· Research, write, edit and proofread stories, articles, newsletters, appeals, prayer resources, project updates, social media content, website copy and other promotional materials that communicate the impact of SIM ministries worldwide.
· Contribute to SIM Australia's social media presence through engaging, missionally aligned content.
· Create, update and maintain website content to ensure information remains accurate, current and relevant.
· Support communication on projects, campaigns, publications, and content planning, in collaboration with the Communications and Media Team.
· Gather, organise, and steward stories, photos, and videos from workers and ministries, ensuring content is appropriately verified, approved and managed in line with SIM Australia’s privacy, safeguarding and security requirements.
· Maintain high standards of accuracy, clarity, and consistency across all communications, ensuring alignment with SIM Australia’s mission, values, brand and style guidelines.
· Assist with the promotion of events and the development of communication resources for conferences, training seminars and ministry activities.
· Monitor communication performance and stakeholder feedback to help improve audience engagement and content effectiveness.
Skills, Experience and Attributes
The successful applicant will be an active Christian communicator with a servant heart and will be able to demonstrate:
· Qualifications and/or proven experience in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, fundraising communications or a related field.
· Experience creating content for websites, social media and other digital communication platforms.
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, engaging and persuasive content.
· Experience writing for supporters, donors, churches or mission-focused audiences.
· Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines within a collaborative team environment.
· Excellent editorial judgment, attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.
· Proficiency in Microsoft 365 apps and familiarity with content management systems, email marketing platforms, social media tools and approved AI-assisted content applications.
· A sound understanding of God’s Word and its application to Christian communication.
· A genuine passion for, and understanding of, cross-cultural Christian mission.
Summary
The Communications and Media Writer plays a key role in helping SIM Australia share stories of God’s work around the world and inspire people to engage in mission with us. This is a unique opportunity to use your skills and talents to help make Christ known where He is least known.
This part-time position of 4 days per week is offered on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension or conversion to a permanent role, subject to performance and operational needs.
