Do you love Jesus? Are you a skateboarder? Combine these two passions and come to Hokkaido to join our team. There is NO skateboard ministry in all of Japan, so we are keen to help you start one in Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido.
Job Description
Japan has the largest unreached action sports population in the world. There are many skateboarders in Sapporo and these folks are already open to the influences of the skateboard culture. Let’s use this openness as an opportunity to present the gospel to them! It is a unique chance to establish trust relationships through a shared interest in skateboarding. Spearheading a new ministry is also helping the local churches in bringing the church to where the people are and helping them model creative and effective outreach.
As a team we want to see disciples who go out and make disciples. We believe that if a discipleship movement happens, new churches will be established along the way. Using action sports as a tool is a unique and fun way to get in close contact with people, which is often a problem for churches. As we are a small team with limited time and resources, more workers in the harvest would help us to have a bigger impact with the gospel reaching more people.
Sapporo has 4 distinct seasons: the flowers come out in spring, it gets hot in the summer, the autumn colours are spectacular and the winter comes with lots of snow for skiing, snowboarding and the famous snow festival! The winters are cold and long, which some struggle with.
It is a city of about 2 million with all that city life has to offer. It is also not far from the mountains, the seaside, hot springs, and some of the most beautiful nature spots in Japan. It is difficult adjusting to the differences of Japanese culture and Japanese is one of the most difficult languages in the world, but is is a relatively safe and convenient place to live.
