One in seven of all Muslims live in Southeast Asia. Most have never heard about the love God has for them as expressed in the life of Jesus. But God is still at work, and you can make a difference if you come to live and serve in Southeast Asia.
You will join an existing team in one of our networks serving the people of this region, and use your existing gifts and skills to bring social and economic improvement to the lives of ordinary Muslims in their communities. As you do, you will help Muslims come to know the love of God through sharing your life, and Jesus’ life, with them.
You will live, study and work incarnationally among our beloved Muslim neighbors here in Southeast Asia. With this foundation you will be involved in sharing the love of Jesus and helping our neighbors understand who Jesus Christ truly is. We do not hide the way we worship God, as we want our neighbors to see that true followers of Jesus take their faith seriously. Reading the scriptures, fellowship and prayer are important elements.
Most of us live in large cities. Some are densely populated with a lot of traffic. Others have more the setting of suburbs. Muslims are very hospitable and there is usually some opportunity to visit their heartland, in the countryside.
In your public role, you may teach, serve as a professional, run a business, empower poor communities and contribute to nation-building in the countries where we serve. You’ll have opportunities to make friends with your neighbors, build bridges and explore the Scriptures with them. You will learn to explain what it means to follow Isa Al-Masih – Jesus the Messiah, living as a witness to him. Throughout, you’ll be working with like-minded followers of Jesus in loving and serving your Muslim neighbors.
We seek people to serve among the Muslims of Southeast Asia who:
- have or want to have a heart for Muslim people .
- would like to see Muslims learn more about Jesus.
- want to build relationships with Muslims and understand their culture.
- have gifts that can be used to serve others and help the host country.
- are keen to adjust and learn in a new culture.
Southeast Asia is home to megacities, cities, towns and villages, each with its own distinct character, and each with its attractions and disadvantages. If you are drawn to a specific area or community, you are welcome to explore this with us. However, if like most people you need more information, we can help you understand where you might find the best fit by discussing your preferences and possibly arranging a vision trip to the region. In either case, your early days in your chosen field will usually be spent with our experienced people who will help you to develop your language, local culture and worldview skills.
