Situated at the crossroads between South Asia and the Greater Mekong Subregion, Myanmar is a fascinating and ethnically diverse state. It is abundant in natural beauty; from jungle-covered mountain ranges to ancient temples and vast lakes and wetlands. Since independence in 1948, Myanmar has struggled to integrate its eight distinct ethnic minority cultures, who populate the most remote outer lying provinces of the country and often live in extreme poverty.
