Vietnam is a rapidly changing and modernising country, and there is a great openness to the gospel. But generations of ancestor worship and decades of communism have brought a heavy spiritual bondage. While there are many restrictions to gospel work the Vietnamese people are open and eager to talk of spiritual things. Join one of our small ministry teams and explore what it means to live and work in Vietnam as we seek to see Jesus transform this nation.
The majority Viet Kinh people, over 75million of the 90million people living in Vietnam; less than 1% are evangelical believers; meaning they are one of the largest unreached people groups in the world today.
This is an opportunity for those interested in developing their involvement in overseas work. You will complement the ongoing ministry of our teams, as we work in the hope of seeing an indigenous biblical church movement in Vietnam. Through your own ministry of friendship evangelism, discipling of believers and through contributing to team ministry activities (which will vary according to location) you will have the opportunity to understand the joys and challenges of crosscultural work and contribute to the growth of God's Kingdom in Vietnam.
Though we expect your ministry to be through the English language you will start with a period of Vietnamese language and culture study. It is likely that you will then undertake employment, either a role in which you already have experience or qualifications or through other work opportunities eg in English teaching. In this community orientated, sociable culture you will have many openings to share the gospel and hopefully go on to mentor and disciple new believers. There may be other opportunities to contribute to the local church or parachurch groups eg theological English support, evangelistic English groups.
Team co-workers will provide mentoring in ministry approaches and we encourage all workers to grow in Christ-like character and service through mutual team accountability and personal spiritual discipline.
You should have some experience in personal evangelism and discipleship, and have a good grasp of biblical truth. Experience in working in a team and mentoring others would be an advantage. You should be willing to share every aspect of your life and become involved with the local people, be a living example of Christ, and share the message of the gospel as appropriate.
If English teaching is a likely work option then a TESOL qualification or similar will be useful. If you are continuing a current profession you should have appropriate qualifications or experience, we can advise on specific requirements.
