Vietnam is a rapidly changing and modernising country, and there is a great openness to the gospel. But generations of ancestor worship and decades of communism have brought a heavy spiritual bondage. There are still many restrictions to gospel work but the Vietnamese people are open and eager to talk of spiritual things. We work in small ministry teams and encourage an incarnational ministry approach.
The majority Viet Kinh people, over 75million of the 90million people living in Vietnam; less than 1% are evangelical believers; meaning they are one of the largest unreached people groups in the world today. The Church is small but growing, and the Vietnamese are a friendly people and natural evangelists. Discipleship and training of believers is needed to bring this young Church to maturity and growth..
We are seeking long term workers who with a passion to ignite indigenous biblical church movements through the mobilization and training of Vietnamese believers. Through your own networks you will identify local believers who share our vision and form them into small teams who will be equipped in church planting methods such as evangelism and discipleship through oral storying. They will be sent out from the team to encourage the growth of cell churches amongst their own people.
Long term workers will initially be in a two year program of Vietnamese language and culture integration based in one of Vietnam's main cities, and then move to join a ministry team in an urban location. You will receive training in indigenous church planting through a training program and mentoring from local leaders. We encourage all members to grow in Christ-like character and service through our member development program and through mutual team accountability.
You should have experience in personal evangelism and discipleship, and have a good grasp of biblical truth. Experience in team work and mentoring and/or leading others would be an advantage. You should be willing to share every aspect of your life and become involved with the local people, be a living example of Christ, and share the message of the gospel as appropriate.
To remain in Vietnam long term a working role which provides a visa is usually necessary. Wherever possible we seek work roles that complement our vision (see 'English Teaching in Vietnam' and 'Professional Work in Vietnam' for further information). However, professional qualifications are not a requirement for this role and we will explore individual options during the application period as well as after your arrival on the field.
