Job Description
Local students are open to change and to connecting with foreign students. Hence this is a strategic opportunity for young people with a desire to reach their peers.
You will contribute to the vision and mission of the team by living and working incarnationally among our focus People Group. With this foundation you will be involved in sharing the good news of life in Jesus, making disciples and praying in order to kindle movements of Jesus-followers among this people group.
Single workers will usually share an apartment with local students or stay in a student dorm. Married workers will live in an area where they can have contact with local people in a similar situation in life to themselves.
You will be part of a team, comprising of fellow students, lecturers and other professionals. Your personal ministry will revolve around friends made on campus and in the area where you live, keeping in mind that building relationships isn't the main goal, but rather sharing the Good News.
The city is crawling with motorbikes and the countryside is full of tropical green mountains and flowing with brown rivers that flow into a refreshing ocean. The cultures of most peoples is more laid back and they love to hang out and chat. Religion is a common topic of conversation. Existence of the spirit world is assumed.
According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2/5ths of Southeast Asians are Muslims. Islam is predominant in the southern half of the Malay Peninsula and the Malay Archipelago (which includes Indonesia).
Responsibilities
-An initial period of language study and cultural adaptation followed by College studies.
-Sharing the Good News with your fellow students, friends and neighbours.
-Assisting with short-term teams.
Qualifications
-Must have a diploma and a desire for doing further studies in conjunction with ministry.
Living Situations
The applicant should be prepared to live a contextualized lifestyle within the community in which they will live. Among other things, this relates to dressing modestly and the food we eat. It also means adapting the language we use to share about Jesus. In the local culture it is important that the men relate to the men and the women relate to the women. These steps taken will go far in building bridges with our neighbors.
1. Committed to direct ministry among our focus people group.
2. Able to maintain good spiritual health, even in the face of practical and spiritual challenges.
3. Willing to work together on a diverse team of people from different cultures with mutual accountability, but also self-reliance.
4. Willing to respect local expectations regarding such matters as clothing, food and relationships with those of the opposite sex.
